Maple Leaf's Vertical Coordination Strategy: A Key to Enhanced Safety

At Maple Leaf, we believe you can never be too careful when it comes to your food.

That is one of the reasons we pioneered and adopted vertical coordination as our primary business strategy. This model enhances food safety by allowing us to monitor the quality and safety of our products from animal feed, right through to end processing and packaging. It provides us with the added assurance of the quality and safety of our meat because we know how and where it was raised.

We introduced Prime Naturally™ and Medallion Naturally™, nutritious pork and poultry products, fed a diet of our own vegetable grain feed containing no animal by-products. Our Nutri-Prime™ for poultry and Nutri-Medallion™ for pork feeds were specially formulated specifically for Maple Leaf Foods by the agricultural scientists at Shur-Gain, a Maple Leaf owned company. The feed contains an optimal combination of grains like oats, barley, and flax with vegetables like peas and corn so we know we are raising healthy animals.

We are also leading research to achieve complete traceability of our pork products from the farm through to processing and packaging as part of our continuing commitment to maintain the highest standard of food safety assurance.
