Support of Haiti Relief Efforts
On January 12, 2010, a devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti, affecting an estimated 3 million people and destroying most of Haiti's capital. The Red Cross responded immediately to provide shelter, food, clean water and medical care to the many people desperately in need of help.
In response to the overwhelming need and an outpouring of employee concern, Maple Leaf Foods is partnering with the Canadian Red Cross to assist in providing relief and aid to the victims of the earthquake.
On January 27, we will host a company-wide Haiti Disaster Relief Day, with fundraising activities taking place across the organization. Maple Leaf Foods will match the total funds raised from these employee events – dollar for dollar - up to a total of $50,000.
Maple Leaf employees are also making individual donations to the Canadian Red Cross, which are eligible for the Canadian federal government program which matches individual donations – dollar for dollar – made by February 12, 2010, up to a total of $50 million.
